Caipirinha, the Brazilian cocktail recipe
In summer we usually throw ourselves fully into all the refreshing options to drink at any time of the day and of course also when we want to have a drink or cocktail as in this case. The truth is that there are many options to avoid falling into the usual combinations and this is one of the ones that I like the most, although it is less and less new for us because it has become very popular.
The caipirinha it’s a cocktail originating from Brazil and the most characteristic of its flavor is provided by the alcohol with which it is prepared, the cachaça or cachaçaan alcoholic beverage that is produced from sugar cane juice and that provides a slightly bitter taste. The mixture with the sugar and the lime is very balanced and that together with its simplicity is the secret of its success.
Refreshing and contrasting, it is ideal to drink when the heat tightens, for example for a sunset, although in Brazil it is also a tradition to drink it during an aperitif. There is a small detail to take into account and that is that must be taken with a straw and make sure that it is glued to the bottom to be able to drink the cachaça mixed with the sugar and the lime, since if you raise the straw or take it by drink, it is most likely that you will end up drinking only cachaça and the flavor changes a lot.
If you like this cocktail, you will surely be interested in other refreshing drinks that contain alcohol and of which we have already published how they are prepared. I would highlight especially in summer the mojito with its recipe and ingredientsthe homemade sangria with red wine and fruitsthe delicious and refreshing bloody mary cocktailthe exotic pina colada cocktail and for special occasions lemon sorbet with or without cavaideal for changing flavors during the course of a long menu, or the elegant cosmopolitan cocktail.

Ingredients to prepare caipirinha or caipirinha (amount for 2 cocktails):
- 120 ml of cachaça, a Brazilian distillate made from fermented sugar cane juice.
- 2 dessert spoons of brown sugar.
- 2 limes.
- Crushed or crushed ice. You can buy it directly like this or chop ice cubes at home.
- 2 straws, essential!
Preparation, how to make the caipirinha or Brazilian caipirinha recipe:
- Let’s go with the preparation of the two caipirinhas. Wash the limes, dry them and cut them in half horizontally as we would an apple since the idea is to remove the central white part because it makes it a little bitter. Then each half is cut again to obtain lime quarters.
- Take a dessert spoon of sugar in each glass and also one lime In each one.
- Crush the pieces a little lime with the sugar with the help of a mortar mallet or similar.
- Add 60 ml of filter cake to each glass although remember that you can add the amount of alcohol you prefer, this already depends on taste.
- Chop the ice with a glass blender with that function or some grinder or robot or even buy it already chopped and pour it into the glasses until it practically overflows.
- Finally put a straw to each glass, let it rest for a few minutes so that everything cools (you can stir a little with the straw) and that’s it.
Time: 5 minutes
Serve and Taste:
Enjoy this freshly made cocktailpreparing it at the moment is very simple and you will only have to wait a few minutes until it cools well in the glass.
It is an exotic cocktail that has become very popular in recent years and the combination of ingredients is ideal. Enjoy this refreshing cocktail of authentic… scandal!
Variants of the caipirinha or Brazilian caipirinha recipe:
Instead of brown sugar you can use White sugar and the biggest variations come when the type of alcohol to be used is changed. If cachaça is replaced by vodka, the cocktail is called Caipiroskaif it’s rum it’s called caipirissima and if it’s pisco it’s called caipirisco.
There are bigger changes, such as replacing cachaça with wine, going on to be called caipivinowave caipifrutamade with crushed fruits such as pineapple, kiwi or passion fruit.
Tips:
This cocktail is prepared individually in each glass and always at the moment of drinking it, although if you want to have it prepared in advance you can leave everything ready in the glasses in the absence of adding the ice at the last moment.
As it is a cocktail with very few ingredients, the most important thing is that the alcohol used is of quality. The usual thing is to use white cachaça but you can also use aged cachaca.
